The HP Cloud Print service works for printers manufactured since June 2014, but requires you to sign up separately. It's a free service and includes a 14-day free trial. In addition to any standard monthly or yearly plans, you can purchase a $2.99/month unlimited printing plan or a $19.99/year unlimited printing and fax plan. HP says you can print from any browser, but it's not clear whether you can print from the app and then print again to the same printer from another device.
The HP Mobile Print app lets you print from your iOS device; Android 2.2 and later; and Windows 7 and above. It includes the ability to print photos from any camera (even if the photo isn't saved to your iPhone or iPad), and the printer can also print to specific devices or computers if you're able to identify them by their MAC address. HP also supports the Mac's AirPrint, so if you have AirPrint enabled on your Mac, it prints wirelessly without taking up a USB port.
The HP Instant Ink Plus Direct Connect printer uses a Wi-Fi Direct connection to connect the printer to your Mac or Windows PC, meaning you don't have to use the HP Mobile Print app and you can print from the app that comes with your device.
Any manufacturer that supports AirPrint can provide the software and hardware that comes with HP Plus. If the manufacturer includes a document viewer, you'll get additional capabilities, such as the ability to open PDFs, modify and print Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents, or print through your printer's Android or iOS app. And because it's an extra cost to have HP Plus, the software and hardware you get from a supported manufacturer may be more cost-effective.
You can use HP's EasyPrint software to set the printer up for wireless printing from your iPad or iPhone, or just get connected to the wireless network at a home or business where the printer is located. You can also change the security settings on the printer to secure the network.
Another great thing about Smart Print Pro is that it has its own settings. You can set the order of where to print the sections you selected, and even add a second page for your archives. You can even add a custom header and footer. All these features would be very hard to do without Smart Print Pro. But even if you don't have SharePoint, you can still take advantage of Smart Print Pro and HP Smart. SharePoint is not required.
