I'm afraid that this is a major bug in the program. I am not experiencing any problems on my computer, but I do on several other computers which are connected to the internet via different networks. If I try to download a book with the "transparent proxy" option active, the program closes immediately after starting. The cause of this is that the proxy server isn't properly detected, i.e. I'm not using the proxy settings that are stored in the user profile. For now, we are unable to reproduce this. For the moment, I'm unable to fix the bug. If you try to download a book with a transparent proxy, the program immediately closes with an error message. A temporary workaround is to cancel the download and try again. I will also take a look at this at a later point.
Hathi Download Helper uses functions of the Internet Explorer. If these functions are not available, the process will be canceled immediately. To ensure the availability of these functions, the program should be restarted.
I never had any problem until July 1st (when I used HDH for the last time), but now I'm finding some difficulties. I can get the book info, but it's almost useless because the "start download" button does not activate, so I'm unable to download any book. Of course, I'm always talking about public domain books.
The "US only" option is obsolete because the program automatically detects which settings are required based on the access restrictions. This means that as soon as a title can only be accessed via US proxies, only those are used. Unfortunately, the number of freely available proxies is very limited, so that there are longer waiting times when there are high numbers of users. In addition, more and more proxy servers are being blocked by hathitrust. I will take another look at the program behavior... d2c66b5586
