The download contains a ZIP file with the Installation package for Excel OM for Macs. Unzip the file and then run the package program. Excel OM for Macs will be installed into a folder named excelOMQMv4 into the Applications folder of your Mac. To start Excel OM/QM, open the file named excelOMQMv4.xla. Alternatively, it will be much easier to use if you make an Alias for ExcelomQMv4.xla and place the Alias on your desktop.
I figured out the actual problem that I was having that was really causing me want to use a QM equivalent with Numbers. For regression and a few other options in QM, the solver button was not available. I had to find the plug-ins and turn on the solver plug-in. However, that didn't solve everything. I also had to download a plug-in that was no longer available through the Excel updates. I had to download StatPlus:macle, which isn't really a plug-in. I runs along with Excel.
Yeah, I already have the QM for Mac download and have been trying to use it. I had also already downloaded the update from that site you shared. However, there is an important feature missing- the Solve icon. I can't figure out how to fix that little issue. And, I would rather use Numbers out of preference. Although, of Microsoft problems, I mean products, I think Excel is my favorite. I had not thought of trying to open the .xla with Numbers. I will try that later and post results.
After downloading the qm_-macx64.dmg disk image, double click on the .dmg file. This will mount and open the disk image. To install the QM tool, you simply drag the qm.app image into the Applications folder (typically visible in the Dock). If you wish, you might also create the alias of the qm.app and place it on your Desktop.

OpenSolver is being developed by Andrew Mason in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Auckland, and Iain Dunning. Kat Gilbert also made valuable contributions to the code while working as a summer student. Current development is lead by Jack Dunn from MIT. Development of OpenSolver is made easier by the excellent Excel Name Manager which displays all the hidden worksheet names used to store an optimization model. 153554b96e
