The Basic Design Value Cards are a design aid for the 2016 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings (ANSI/AISC 360-16). These cards present some of the most frequently used equations from the Specification in a simplified and abbreviated format.
Ten years after a tragic natural disaster decimated the local Hazani Zamboanga fishing community, Gaya L. Mangahas (SAIAG, 1998), a staunch advocate for the community, worked with a team of artisanal fishermen to carefully restore a village fish hatchery in 1994. The re-construction of the fish hatchery was not only restored but also elevated to the next level by providing improved water quality to allow the fish to grow better. In addition, the community became more focused on the sustainable management of natural resources, focusing more on sustainable fishing resource management. The amazing renaissance of the fish hatchery bestowed something of great value to the fisher folk in terms of their quality of life, as well as to the mother ocean in terms of healthy fin and mitten fish. The re-construction of the fish hatchery spearheaded the use of the AIOS/ANSI S244-1999 method of egg candling that is incorporated in our Genomic Resistance Ontology. This method of egg candling is a huge improvement over the old standard of wooden egg cases that would also contain the anti-candling material. It is a much less harmful to the fish eggs as well as to the personnel candling the eggs.
